Is a new MCC certificate issued to me every year or do I use the same one that was sent to me from the year I closed on my house?

Also, I didn't claim my MCC for 2016 can I claim that this year along with my 2017?

No, unless you refinanced your home (and received a 2nd MCC), then you should use the certificate you had when you purchased the home.

You can't add last years credit to this years return. However, you can amend your 2016 return if you forgot to take the credit in that year.

Note: If you did take the 2016 credit but it was greater than the taxes that you owed (you had 0 taxes due), then you have a carryover. If this is your case, then you can use the remaining amount and carry it forward.

See below instructions should you need to amend your 2016 return.
