IRS e-file rejection – Form 5695 Enabling Property error (PanelboardCktFeederStdPctCrAmt) for heat pump credit – cannot edit in TurboTax Online

My federal return was rejected after e-filing through TurboTax Online with the following error:

Reject Code:

/Return/ReturnData/IRS5695/EgyEffcntHmImprvCrGrp/EnablingPropertyGrp/PanelboardCktFeederStdPctCrAmt

TurboTax shows this message:

“There is a potential issue with the calculation regarding Form 5695, Energy Efficient Home Improvement section, Enabling Property on the Federal return. This return cannot be filed at this time due to a processing error that will be corrected on March 6, 2026. On or after this date, open the rejected return, review it for errors, and resubmit the return for electronic filing.”

Details about my return:

  • I am using TurboTax Online
  • I claimed the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ($2,000) for a heat pump installation
  • The $2,000 corresponds to the heat pump energy property credit limit
  • When asked about Enabling Property (panelboard/circuit/feeder) I selected “No”
  • I did not install a panel upgrade or electrical feeder/circuit work

The problem is that TurboTax Online does not allow direct editing of Form 5695, and I cannot find any place in the interview to change or clear the Enabling Property fields.

Questions:

  1. Has TurboTax released a fix for this Form 5695 e-file rejection related to heat pump credits?
  2. How can I reset or regenerate Form 5695 so the Enabling Property (Panelboard/Circuit/Feeder) field is not included?
  3. Is there a way to delete and recreate Form 5695 in TurboTax Online without losing the valid $2,000 heat pump credit?
  4. Is this still a known TurboTax software issue, or should I wait for another update before attempting to re-file?

Any advice from TurboTax moderators or users who successfully re-filed with a heat pump credit on Form 5695 would be greatly appreciated.

IRS e-file rejection – Form 5695 Enabling Property error (PanelboardCktFeederStdPctCrAmt) for heat pump credit – cannot edit in TurboTax Online

There was an update to this last week.

If you are using desktop software you may need to do a manual update. Try clearing your Cache and Cookies and then try this link instructions.

If you are using the online software, Clear Cache and Cookies

Not all instances have been resolved for form 5695. If you are claiming a credit for an external door, you will need to wait until March 13 and try filing again.

IRS e-file rejection – Form 5695 Enabling Property error (PanelboardCktFeederStdPctCrAmt) for heat pump credit – cannot edit in TurboTax Online

Thanks for the response, Catina!

I wanted to share what worked for me in case it helps others dealing with the same Form 5695 / Enabling Property rejection.

Clicking "Fix Rejection" was not helpful — it would just flag the Enabling Property fields, reference the March 6th fix, and loop back without resolving anything.

What I tried (on March 10):

  • Loaded my tax return progress on a different laptop
  • Cleared Google Chrome cache, cookies, and website data
  • Used Tax Tools → Delete Form to delete Form 5695
  • Revisited the Home Energy Credits section and re-answered all the questions
  • Went through the full Federal return review, all the way to the e-file screen (just before submitting) — this seems to regenerate/update the forms; note that you can't download the updated PDF unless you go through to the end of the e-file flow

One thing I noticed: The rejection error does not go away even after you've made changes — it only clears once you actually go through the e-file process. So don't rely on it as a signal that something is broken or fixed.

After going through all of the above multiple times, I took a chance and submitted — and both my federal and state returns were accepted! 🎉

I'm not entirely sure what made the difference. My Form 5695 PDF didn't visibly change (the Yes/No answers stayed the same), so it's possible something was fixed on the IRS or TurboTax backend. Either way, it's resolved!

Hope this helps someone else in the same situation.
