In 2018 I had an HSA and was over 55. Form 8889 line 3 shows the full family contrib. $7900, but line 7 should be used for the $1000. How do I change this on Form 8889?

The entire $7,900 being on line 3 is correct if you are unmarried.  Your $1,000 catch-up moves to line 7 only if you are married.  This is per the IRS instructions for lines 3 and 7 of Form 8889 for someone with family HDHP coverage.

Is line 8 $7,900? Then don't worry about it. Sometimes, based on the particulars of your return, the full amount is put on line 3 and line 7 is zero. One such example is if both you and you spouse have HSAs and the maximum Family contribution limit has to be allocated between the two of you.

So long as line 8 has the correct amount, then the 8889 is OK.
