my husband and I are married filing separately - not itemizing.  That means that I cannot file the taxes I paid for property taxes & car registration

You are right, the IRS does not allow one spouse to itemize their deductions and the other spouse to take the standard deduction when married filing separate, (MFS) tax returns.  You either have to both itemize and split the deductions or both take the standard deduction when MFS.

You are right, the IRS does not allow one spouse to itemize their deductions and the other spouse to take the standard deduction when married filing separate, (MFS) tax returns.  You either have to both itemize and split the deductions or both take the standard deduction when MFS.
