If the 1099 for an internship came from a different state than the actual internship, where do I file the taxes?

I traveled across the country to work for NASA in Virginia, but the 1099 and paychecks came from Maryland. I never set foot in MD. Do I file in MD, VA, or both?

You file in Virginia. You may file as a part-year resident if you were only there for part of the year.
