If my itemized deductions total about $9k this year and a standard individual deduction for a single person is 12k, Wouldn't I be better off not itemizing this year?

For 2017 income taxes, the standard deduction for one filing single is $6,350.

For 2018 income taxes, the standard deduction for filing single will increase to $12,000, but that will be for taxes filed in early 2019.

Therefore for 2017 income taxes, it would be more advantageous to take the itemized deductions total you reference above versus the standard deduction of $6,350.
