Did you receive a 2019 1098-T from your school and enter it into the 2019 TurboTax?
Were you a full time student in 2019?
Were you claimed as anyone else's dependent? Or did you file as married filing separately? Either of those things would make you ineligible to get education credits.
Yes.
and half time, but I still qualify for an education credit if I did at least half time.
No I am an independent student filing HOH,
I know I am eligible for it as I am a tax preparer myself. I’m just confused because I had eligible expenses from tuition paid, even stating so on one of my documents, and then the other doc says I didn’t.
@breannams60-gmai - you may have to provide more specific detail. For example, was there any scholarships involved (box 5)? was there a 529 involved?
did you use the desktop or online version. if desktop it's easier to go back and see what may have gone wrong. if the desktop version, go into Forms view and review the "student Info Wk" form - is any response amiss?
And please confirm these amounts: 1) box 1 of Form 1098-T, 2) box 5 of Form 1098-T, 3) the amount on Line 3 of Schedule 3......
That would be a good start to figure out 'why'
