If both my brother in law and sister in law passed away in 2017 and bought there home on Feb 15, 1985. why am I asked to fill out form 5405?

I've tried several things and resubmitted the return, but it was rejected each time.

From what you've explained, you should not be asked to complete Form 5405, Repayment of the First-Time Homebuyer Credit.  Generally, the form is for homes purchased in 2008, for taxpayers who took advantage of the credit.

You can try deleting the form.  Follow the steps in the TurboTax FAQ below for the instructions.  Click "See entire answer" for the full page view.

Please first review your family's 2016 tax return to confirm that Form 5405 was not included.  It's possible events took place that you may not have known about.  If it is determined that the credit was taken, no further repayments are due if both homeowners are deceased

I am very sorry for your loss.
