I gave a donation using a check mailed in 2017, but the organization acknowledged they received donation in 2018. Should donation be reported on my 2017 or 2018 taxes?

If the postmark on your donation was 12/31/2017 or before, then you can include this amount on your 2017 tax return.

If not, you will need to use it in 2018.

I wrote the donation check in 2017 but the organization cashed it in 2018; which year do I claim the deduction?
