That is a great thing you are doing. Unfortunately if you are a W-2 wage employee you cannot deduct on a federal tax return any employee business expenses due to the tax code changes in effect for the tax years 2018 thru 2025.
So if I was not employed by the PD, would that donation be deductible??
No. The police department is a government organization rather than a charity.
