I took out a loan 3 years ago to pay for the installation of solar panels. Can i deduct the interest annually?

I did take the energy credit in the year that the panels were installed, but now have a non-titled loan (not home equity or similar) that i am paying for the purchase.  the loan was originally labeled as a smart-e loan, but there is nothing on the loan account to designate this.

This loan was not an equity loan, how do i answer the TT prompted question about whether or not i had to take this loan out against something of value??  If this is not the case, the interest is not considered deductible?

Answer "yes".  You are allowed to take this interest deduction. As stated above, It is OK to show your home improvement interest expense as mortgage interest under the 1098 section of Schedule A."
