You cannot claim a credit on your 2016 tax return for an expense from any other year. It is too late to file or amend a 2011 tax return for a refund.

I told  if anything that's  over 7 or 8 years you can file but you will have to file an amend is that's  true or not?

If you have never filed a tax return for a specific year, you file an original return for that year regardless of how many years it has been. You only file an amended return if you need to change an original return that was already filed. You cannot get a refund on any tax return filed more than 3 years after the original filing deadline.

Yes you lost that credit for that year because it had to be taken on that year's tax return and it is too late to file a 2011 tax return or amended return and get a credit for a refund.

I have two more W-2 forms that's going to be coming out this month. Can I just use my last checkstub just to get an estimate on what I be looking to get or do. I have to wait to my W-2 forms to come in and order to get an estimate?
