I received a CP12 letter stating that I made an error on the 20211040 which affects the following area on my return: Recovery Rebate Credit which I apparently received already in 2021. The letter also says that I am due a refund. At the bottom of the CP12, it says that if I don't contact the IRS by May 20, 2022 it will proceed that I agree with the information in the notice which I do. The letter also says that if I haven't received the adjusted refund amount which I haven't, I should receive it within 4 to 6 weeks. That is all fine and dandy but when I go to check my refund on the IRS site, it says that they cannot provide any information about your refund. I even entered the original refund amount and got the response: we apologize, but your return processing has been delayed beyond the normal timeframe. I filed my federal income tax back in February 2022 but yet I am still having issue with receiving my refund. What can I do now?

What you can do now is wait until 4 to 6 weeks after May 20, which would be July 1, and probably longer. The IRS is extremely backlogged this year, and everything is taking much longer than normal. They also have not been keeping "Where's my Refund?" up to date. Some people are waiting 6 months or more for their refunds. Your refund has been delayed because of the error in the Recovery Rebate Credit. There is nothing you can do to speed it up, or to get reliable information about the status. All you can do is wait.
Direct deposit will be a bit faster than getting a paper check in the mail, but not much. It will only make a difference of a week or so.

Thanks for your response. I agree and have no choice but wait. I am supposed to receive my refund via direct deposit. Does that mean I may receive my refund faster?

Thanks for your help. It is appreciated.
