Also purchase a new air conditioning and furnace unit, would that qualify as well?

Just to confirm with you, regarding the type of air conditioner. You can claim:
- Solar water heating costs
- Solar electric costs
- Fuel cell property costs
- Small wind energy property costs
- Geothermal heat pump property costs
- Qualified central air conditioners
- Certain advanced main air circulating fans
- Exterior doors, exterior windows and skylights
- Metal or asphalt roofs with qualified coatings
- Insulation material or system to reduce heat loss
- Certain electric heat pump water heaters, electric heat pumps
- Furnaces and hot water
boilers powered by natural gas, propane or oil (this may apply)
You can't claim:
- Energy Star appliances
- Low-flow showerheads
- Low-flush toilets
