There is no federal property tax credit. Property tax can be entered as an itemized deduction on Schedule A in your federal return. Your state might have a property tax credit. Are you confusing those with each other?
To enter property tax into your federal return:
Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits> Your Home>Property Taxes
If your state has a property tax credit you will be prompted to enter it in the state software.
HI- Thank you for your response, I should've specified that I was referring to my jersey state return. Turbotax continues to force the credit versus the deduction.
TurboTax will choose either the Deduction or Credit for your New Jersey Property Tax, whichever is more beneficial, taking into consideration other factors in your NJ return. For example, if you have a credit for taxes paid to another state, this reduces the deduction you can take.
Here's detailed info on the NJ Property Tax Credit from the State of New Jersey, and also a TurboTax response to your question to help you.
