I paid my property tax more than 36k plus other deductables. we are married filling jointly. why turbotax still let me use standard deduction

It depends if you were able to use the full $40K Salt Cap. Even though the old $10,000 cap was recently increased to $40,000 for 2025, there is a "catch" based on your income:

1. The Phase-out: If your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI) is over $500,000, the $40,000 limit starts shrinking. 
2. For every dollar you earn over $500k, the cap is reduced by 30 cents.
3. Once your income hits $600,000, the cap drops all the way back down to the old $10,000 limit.

This is the most common cause for a Salt Cap limitation.
