If you have not e-filed your tax return, here are instructions to remove your child care expenses / form 2441:
While signed in to your return, at the right upper corner, search for child care credit and then click the "Jump to" link in your search results.
1. At the Did you pay for child or dependent care in 2016? screen, answer Yes.
2. Continue to the Whose care did you pay for? screen and uncheck all boxes. Click Continue.
3. In the upper right corner, click My Account > Tools and then select Delete a Form from the options listed.
4. Scroll down the list of forms and click Delete next to 2441.
5. Click Delete Form to confirm. You should see the message Form Successfully Deleted. Click Continue.
6. Back at the Review Form List screen, scroll down to make sure 2441 no longer appears on the list.
If you have e-filed, you will have to wait until your return is accepted or rejected by IRS / the state.
-If your return is rejected, add your new information (along with anything else that needs to be corrected) and then re-submit your return. See Fix a reject
-If your return has been accepted- you cannot change the information. Instead, you have to amend a return. See instructions below.
IRS does not allow e-file for amendment, you will need to submit the amendment forms with related supporting documents by mail. (Follow instructions through the step-by-step interview questions in the program)
If your original return generates a refund, you should wait until your original refund arrives before you file your amendment. You can cash your check, but you still should wait until your current tax return is resolved. Note that if you see " Do Not File" watermark on your Form 1040-X, this means your original return is either still pending or the forms are not finalized yet.
