You're probably not being taxed double. You probably didn't have as much federal income tax withheld as you did in 2017. Check you W-2, box 2 and compare 2017 versus 2018. You probably got more money in each paycheck versus paying it to the government.
With the new Tax
Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), federal income tax rates were reduced but if you didn't update your payroll
W-4 withholding, your higher refund or lower amount due came in the form of more money in your paychecks.
- We still have 7 federal tax brackets (same as 2017), but most taxpayers will get a lower tax bracket when compared to 2017.
