I’m moving to another state, can I use my relocation expenses to pay for moving to a temporary apartment and then again to my permanent (purchased) home or only once?

The time and distance rule that covers the move from old house to apartment rules out the move from the apartment to the second house.

I hope you are moving in 2017 since the moving expense deduction is gone for 2018 as the current possible new tax law reads.

You can only enter the amount paid for relocation from your old place of residence to your new place of residence, even if the new place of residence is temporary.  You cannot deduct the cost of the move from the temporary location to another temporary or permanent location.  This is all in the IRS Publication under Travel Expenses and your prior question on Storage Expenses.
