If you are 65 or older and have no qualifying child, you are not eligible for the earned income credit.
This is the tax law, so you do not have to change anything.
The EIC is computed automatically by the program and you either need a qualifying child OR be over the age of 24 or under 65. Why do you think the program did it incorrectly ?
I am 73 yrs young, well over 65.
The program did put the epic on my filing and added it to my state refund amount.
The only problem is that turbo tax took the credit for me and submitted it for additional refund. So I can get into trouble right.
I don't know there was no child shown but they added it to my refund amount snywsy.
STATE rules for EIC are different from the feds ... so if the state interview gave it to you then you must have qualified. Review the state return carefully ... read the worksheet as well.
73 with no dependent child = $0 for earned income credit.
