I jointly own a house with my son, which only he lives in. I don't make the mortgage payments but my name is on the loan. Can I deduct part of the interest expense?

Both of our names are on the loan and house title.

No, you can not take a deduction for the interest if you did not make any mortgage payments.

The fact you jointly own the house with your son has no effect on your being able to deduct the interest.
