You will need to enter each Form 1098 separately. Once you have entered the first 1098, click on "Add another 1098" to enter the remaining forms. In the case of a refinance, it's best to enter the 1098 from your original loan before the 1098 from your refinance.

Pay close attention to the following entries:

  • Outstanding mortgage principal as of 1/1/2019
  • Mortgage origination date
  • Mortgage acquisition date (if applicable)
  • For the refinanced loan make sure you marked "Yes" to the question "Is this loan a home equity line of credit or a loan you've ever refinanced?" and answer the questions carefully

Note: If your loan was bought by another company with the same interest rate and principal amount, this doesn't count as refinancing your loan.

@BarbaraW22 ,

I followed your direction and after typing in the refinance lender info, I see a "Needs Review" on the 1098 Mortgage Summary page. I also didn't see the interest showing up from this refinance lender. Is this expected? Thank you

@BarbaraW22

Nevermind. I see what I needed to do.

So for the refinance lender and lender who purchased the refinance lender, I needed to put "$0" in "Box 2 - Outstanding mortgage principal as of 1/1/2019". I didn't know you have to put "$0" or else TurboTax will mark this as "Needs Review"
