I have no info in box 12 on my W2 but turbotax keeps saying I have an HSA and need to fill out a box on form 8889. How do I fix this?

Something may have been unintentionally started when entering your details. Return to the HSA section of your return and be sure that the details are correct.

Within TurboTax, enter HSA in the search box and select the Jump to link in the search results.

Check what input is selected.

Next, if the problem persists, delete Form 8889 and re-run the Review.

To delete this form, follow these steps:

  1. From the left menu, select Tax Tools.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Scroll to Delete a Form.
  4. Scroll to Form 8889 and select Delete and Delete Selected Form and Continue.

Deleting the W-2 form and entering it again manually may also fix the phantom error.

We don't have an HSA account.  I don't know how this got into our return.

You can safely delete any forms that do not apply to tax year 2020. Sometimes if importing forms, stray marks cause unnecessary forms to generate.  As @Critter-3 mentions deleting and re-entering the W2 may solve the issue.

TurboTax will catch these blank forms as well during the review as incomplete forms.

Follow @KathrynG3 instructions below to fix in the interview first and then if necessary delete the forms individually.

Return to the HSA section of your return and be sure that the details are correct.

Within TurboTax, enter HSA in the search box and select the Jump to link in the search results.
