I have an individual HSA plan and my wife has a family HSA plan with our son. The Turbo Tax smart check states I should change my selection to family due to my wife's plan.

The tax rules state that if one spouse has family plan, other spouse is considered to have family plan for purposes of determining your contribution limit. TT is correct. Change both to FAMILY.
