I have a single $2000 employer contribution to my HSA in 2020, but am showing an excess contribution of $2000 and suggesting i will be taxed 6%. Not sure why?

we can't see your return.

possibilities

1) you answered the qustions or made incorrect entries about your HSA 

2) you made personal contributions that pushed you over the limit

3) you had disqualifying coverage such as Medicare or other non-HDHP coverage

look at form 8889 or
