If the credits on your tax return reduce your tax liability to zero then any remaining credit will not be used and it is not carried forward to the next tax year.
I still have a non-zero tax liability. The issue is that when I see my total credits on the TurboTax summary, it shows a total of $2624. I know my child tax credit was about $2600 and I am not sure where my $2000 credit for heat pump was applied. To me it seems to be missing and I want to make sure the software is not mis-calculating this. I won't be able to finish filing with TurboTax until I figure this out.
@rsalem The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit on the Form 5695 Line 32 flows to Schedule 3 Line 5b. The total from Schedule 3 Line 8 flow to the Form 1040 Line 20.
Look at your federal tax return Form 1040 to see how the credit and the calculations for your tax refund or taxes owed.
You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
