I have a child that doesn't live with me but I pay child support and the mother doesn't work

As the non-custodial parent, you can only claim the child as a dependent if the custodial parent gives permission (on form 8332) or if it's spelled out in a pre 2009 divorce decree.

Child support is not deductible and is not reported on your tax return.
