Here's a shortcut way to get to the Foreign Tax Credit interview.   In a second comment I will post an additional way, just in case.

  • With the return open, go to the left menu column and click on TAX TOOLS, then the subtab TOOLS.
  • In the Tools Center choose the blue button Topic Search.
  • In the topic search line enter the phrase foreign tax credit without quotes.
  • Make the selection in the list (it may already be highlighted), and either double-click it or click the GO button.
  • As you go through the Foreign Tax Credit interview it should ask you about carryover.

I provided a shortcut method above, but here's a second way using the routine navigation, just in case:

  • Click the left column tab for Deductions & Credits,
  • It should take you to a page called "Your Tax Breaks".   That shows a summary of the "Tax Breaks", i.e., deductions, that someone has already worked on this year or that TurboTax is expecting from what was entered last year.
  • If there is not a list of all the categories, then lower on that same screen should be a button or link for "Add more tax breaks" or "Show more tax breaks" or similar wording.
  • When you click to see more tax breaks, then the screen should expand, and then all the deduction topics are displayed including  the category "Estimates and Other Taxes Paid."
  • Expand that category and choose subtopic Foreign Tax Credit.
  • As you proceed through that interview it should ask about carryover.
