I gave a mortgage to my daughter for a house, where do I enter the interest I receive in TurboTax and do I need to send her a 1098?

I am using Turbo Tax Premium and did not see a clear answer to this question.

As an individual, you are not required to issue a form 1098 to your daughter. She can still deduct the mortgage interest on her return without a form 1098.

As for you, you should report the interest income on your tax return as if you had received a form 1099-INT from a bank.

  • In TurboTax, open your tax return
  • Click on Federal Taxes, then on Wages & Income on top of the screen
  • On the next scree, click on I'll choose what I work on
  • Scroll down to All Income, locate the section Interest and Dividends
  • Click Start next to Interest on 1099-INT (see attached screenshot).
