The deduction of job-related business expenses has been suspended on the federal return for 2018 to 2015 as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. Therefore, those expenses are no longer deductible on your federal return. There are some states, though, that have not conformed to all the federal tax changes, so the job related expense entry is there for those expenses to flow through to a state return where the deduction is allowed.
