Did you by any chance, claim a home office deduction with your self-employed income?  If so, and you entered your property taxes into your home office deduction section, you have partially duplicated your property taxes.

Let's say your home office is 10% of your total square footage.  When you entered the property taxes in the home office section, TurboTax would deduct 10% of the property tax on your home office, the other 90% would be carried over to your Schedule A, Real Estate Taxes.

Please double check to make sure that is what happened.  You can easily calculate what amount of property tax would carry over to your Schedule A.  If that amount plus the $9188 you mentioned above equals the $17,978, then all you need to do is to delete the property taxes you entered as property tax ($9188).
