I don't think the 8889-t and/or the 8960 forms apply to my tax scenario. Can I proceed without?

You may need those forms. Neither of those are ready yet and the IRS availability date is currently January 26, 2017 for both. You can find form availability here https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1908854-irs-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-individual-perso...

NOTE: Each form is explained below and if you need them, you can't file until they are available. Steps to remove either of these forms are below, if you do not need the forms:

  • Log into your return by clicking orange Take me to my return button
  • Go to My Account in top right and choose Tools
  • Select Delete a form and scroll down and find that form and choose Delete next to it

The Form 8889 is the Health Savings Account form that is used to report your HSA information like any contributions, withdrawals or distributions you made to HSA. See below for more details on why the TurboTax software would generate this form on your return https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302042

And the Form 8960 is used for a net investment tax. If you are not reporting any investments then you can remove the form from the return. https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3789491
