If you are preparing an itemized tax return, you can enter the sales tax you paid for the car you purchased in 2016. To  that section of your return, you can follow the steps listed below.  

• Log in to your TurboTax Online account, or open your TurboTax CD/Download program
• Click Take me to my return
• Click on Federal Taxes (Click on Personal in TurboTax Self Employed) 
• Click on Deductions and Credits
• Click on  "Check for more tax breaks" 
• Click on "Skip to all tax breaks"
• Scroll down to Estimates and Other Taxes Paid
• Locate Sales Tax and click to Start
• Choose EasyGuide on the first next screen
