If you are preparing an itemized tax return, you can enter the sales tax you paid for the car you purchased in 2016. To that section of your return, you can follow the steps listed below.

How to enter:

Select the Federal Taxes tab
Select Deductions and Credits
Select Cars and other things you own. You may be eligible to deduct certain taxes associated with your car.
Then go through the sales tax interview under Estimates and Other Taxes Paid and enter the sales tax you paid on the automobile
