Enter the sale under investment income.

To enter an investment sale -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
Under Investment Income
On Stocks, Cryptocurrency, Mutual Funds, Bonds, Other (1099-B, 1099-DA), click the start or update button

Using the online editions -

On the screen Did you have investment income in 2025? click on Yes

On the screen Save time and connect your financial accounts click on Enter a different way

On the screen How do you want to add your docs?, select Type it in myself

On the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, select Other and continue

How to report inherited money from sale of home with no 1099 form?

Report inherited home sale proceeds (even without a 1099-S) by calculating capital gains on Schedule D (Form 1040) and Form 8949, using the property's fair market value at the date of death as the cost basis. The gain is generally the difference between the sale price and this "stepped-up" basis, often resulting in little to no tax if sold quickly.   Where do I enter the sale of a second home, an inherited home, or land?
