How do we claim electric heat pump and electric heat pump water heater expenses?

Enter these items under Deductions & Credits in the Home Energy Credits section:

Select Yes to the question about making energy-saving improvements

Click Continue

Answer the questions about your living arrangement and home

Continue until you get to the screen that provides entry fields for solar electric costs, solar water heating costs, and geothermal heat pumps if these are what you purchased.

Please see this FAQ list from the IRS which lists the types of energy-saving improvements that qualify for a credit for 2022.

Solar electric costs, solar water heating costs, and geothermal heat pumps do not apply and are not what I purchased.  How and where do I claim costs for my new electric heat pump?

How do we claim electric heat pump and electric heat pump water heater expenses?

I installed the electric heat pump in 2023. I entered the amount in "Energy efficient building property" cost field. However, the tax credit I get is $300, although it should be 30% up to $2000 according to the IRS publication. Can you please clarify?
