How do I restore my software and tax records after destruction of home by fire?

If you used the CD/download version then the only records are on your computer or backups. You can get free transcripts from the IRS (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript) or and exact copy of previous returns for $50 each (https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-4506).

[Personally I have always worried about loosing all of my financial and tax records because of fire so I; 1) keep a portable external hard drive backup of my entire system that I update at least once a month and keep in a different location; 2) Put my financial information and TurboTax .tax files and PDF's in an encrypted password protected wrapper (sparse image in a Mac) and store that on the Apple Free Cloud server - (very safe since it is encrypted).]
