How do I report the sale of previous main home which we moved out of in 2015 but sold in 2018? We purchased another home in 2015 and never rented our prior home.

We have a net loss on sale of ~$180,000. We moved out of state in 2015, purchased a new main house and carried the old one for 3 years.

If you received a 1099-S, enter that as "sale of main home".

Unless this was an investment (rental) the loss will not be realized.
