How do I record contract income earned from a foreign employer while living in the U.S? No foreign taxes were deducted.

I also had related expenses that I would like to deduct.

It depends.  Since your tax home is in this country, you will report this as Self-Employed income.

  1. Go to Federal > Income & Expenses
  2. Scroll down to See all income. In the Self-employment section, click Start next to Income & Expenses
  3. Answer Yes to Did you have any self-employment income or expenses?
  4. Continue through the interview to enter your business information regarding your contract work.
  5. When you have finished entering your business profile, you will begin entering your income and expenses.
  6. When you begin entering your income, be sure to check.  You do not need to mention anywhere that this is from a foreign employer.

Thank you for clarifying. I thought I might have to declare it as foreign income, but the options for doing so didn't seem to fit my case.
