The dealer is required to provide a document to you showing that the EV credit is being transferred to them through the purchase of the vehicle. So, this document should be included as part of the paperwork you received when you purchased the vehicle.
If the credit was transferred to the dealer, then you have already received the EV credit as a reduction in the price of the vehicle. However, you are still required to claim the credit as part of your tax return to reconcile that you were eligible to receive the credit.
By including this as part of your return, if you did not transfer the credit to the dealer at the time of the purchase, then you can claim the credit now.
To get started entering the information required to claim the credit on your return, go to Deductions and Credits > Cars and Other Things You Own > Energy-Efficient Vehicles and click Start.
