How do I know if I got the additional 1k for a child for this year that was passed by government?

The legislation which includes the larger Child Tax Credit has not yet passed both houses of Congress and has not been signed by the President.  The IRS will post on the IRS website how the additional credit can be claimed.

If you are asking about the increase in the child tax credit---that has not become a law.   It only passed in the House of Representatives, and is currently being debated in the Senate--along with a lot of other parts of the next stimulus bill.   So---no, you have not gotten it.  It is not reality yet.  If and when it passes we will find out how and when it will be implemented.
