How do I enter self-employment foreign income as business income—instead of personal income?

To enter Business Foreign Earned Income, so that it doesn't show as personal income, do the following.

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home and Business)
  • Click on I'll choose what I work on (if shown)
  • Scroll down to Less Common Income
  • On Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion, click on the start or update button

Or enter foreign income in the Search/Find box located in the upper right of the program screen.  Click on Jump to foreign income

Next, you'll need to answer "Yes" on the next page to "Did You Make Any Money Outside the United States?" and click continue.   On the next page choose "A Form 1099-MISC or other self-employment income"

I have followed the above instructions. However, this self-employment foreign income shows in Box 1 as "wages, salaries."  It should show as self-employment business income.  How do I correct this.
