How do I enter my foreign tax paid (found on Form 1099-DIV from Schwab) when doing my IRS Form 1040 on TurboTax online?

To enter the foreign taxes reported on Form 1099-DIV, you'll need to click My form has info in more than just these boxes (this is uncommon) when you are on the 1099-DIV page. (Click the screenshots below to enlarge them for reference.) Foreign tax paid is shown in Box 6.

To get to the 1099-DIV section in TurboTax Online:

  • Open (continue) your return in TurboTax Online. (If your return isn't open, you'll need to sign in and click Take me to my return.)
  • Click Tax Tools (lower left side of your screen).
  • Select Tools.
  • In the pop-up window, select Topic Search.
  • In the I'm looking for: box, type 1099-DIV.
  • In the results box, scroll down and highlight 1099-DIV, then click GO.
  • Follow the onscreen instructions. Note: If you've already entered a 1099-DIV, you'll see Here's the dividend income we have so far. Click Edit to change information on an existing form or click + Add Another Broker or Payer to enter another 1099-DIV.
