How do I change the way I get my monthly child tax credit I no longer have a bank account

Keep in mind that this is no longer available in 2022.  Please refer to the helpful answer from @Opus 17  for the current 2022 rules regarding the Child Tax Credit.

Prior to 2022:

You can use the information below and the following IRS link to get your monthly advance: How to get your Advance Child Tax Credit when you don't have a bank account

  • Even if you don't normally file a tax return and don't have a bank account, you can still get Advance Child Tax Credit payments, if you qualify. The only way for the IRS to know if you're eligible, the amount of your payments and where to send them, is for you to register using the IRS Non-filer Sign-up tool.

If you would like to have your payments direct deposited, many financial institutions will help you open a low-cost or no-cost bank account.

Advance child tax credit payments have ended.  The last payment was December 15, unless Congress changes the law again.  As of now, the child tax credit rules for 2022 are the same as they were in 2019 and 2020 before the pandemic; up to $2000, not fully refundable unless you work, and no advance payments.
