How do I carry over Charitable Donations? - The actual process PLEASE

I'm confused (and old). I've read a lot of info but don't understand what I need to enter for this year and the  future. Here's my scenario:

I have approximately $78,000 in income for 2022

I have over $45,000 in charitable donations for 2022

I have maxed out what I can write off for this tax year on charity (all 60%)

I've read that I can carry over some of that for the next 5 years

How do I do that? (I need step by step instructions...I'm lost)

THANK YOU!

Enter all of your charitable contributions for the year into TurboTax. When TurboTax determines that the amount you entered exceeds your allowable deduction for the year based on your Adjusted Gross Income, it will prompt you to identify whether any of the organizations to which you donated have a lower AGI limit and it will calculate the amount you can deduct this year.

If you prepare your 2023 return with TurboTax next year on the same account, it will recognize that you have excess donations to carry over from 2022.

See this article for more information from TurboTax on this topic.

Thank you. If I understand you correctly, I go ahead and list all of them now on my 2022 return. Then next year when I file (with TurboTax of course) it will remind me that I had an excess and will allow me to use some of the carryover for the 2023 tax year.

When I file that next year, does TurboTax tell me how much I have in "eligible" carry over or do I list everything all over again? I'm not sure how to figure out how much I actually used for 2022, as part of our total income was really a 401k rollover to an IRA and it's showing like it was income.

Yes, if you use TurboTax again for 2023 with the same TurboTax Online account, or use the Desktop version and transfer your 2022 information, TurboTax will identify any carryover items.

Once all of your income, deductions, and credits are entered for 2022,  Schedule A of your return will show how much of your charitable deductions were allowed for 2022.

See this article that specifically mentions the carryover of contributions in TurboTax.
