TurboTax Premier may prompt you to complete Form 7205 if it detects entries or previous data related to energy-efficient building credits or related business/rental property activities. Since you have no business, rental, or royalty properties, and no energy-efficient building deductions, the prompt may be due to data entered earlier or carryover information from prior years.
To stop TurboTax Premier from requiring Form 7205:
1. Review your entries in the Federal > Deductions & Credits and Business sections for any references to energy-efficient building credits or related depreciation.
2. Check your Schedule E and Schedule C sections to ensure no properties or expenses are listed.
3. Remove any entries related to energy-efficient buildings or credits.
4. If you imported last year's return, verify that no carryover credits or depreciation related to Form 7205 were included.
Once this information is cleared, TurboTax typically will stop prompting to file Form 7205.
It turns out the problem was I had a $0 entry for this item on the Schedule C Worksheet. Once I deleted that, the insistence that I file the Form 7205 went away.
