July 2025 we had to install a new HVAC unit which consisted of Central Air Conditioner and a Heat Pump heating system.  The purchase price was 13,000.  We entering information into TurboTax I am getting a little bit confused.  I was able to locate the QMID, but this is the part that I totally do not understand why this matters.  Cost of the most expensive central air conditioner and cost of all other central air conditioners.  Then cost of the most expensive heat pump and the cost of all others.

Did you install ONE thing or more than one thing?

If you only bought one thing, just enter the cost under the 'most expensive' line.  

The Heat Pump also cools the home, so unless you bought a separate AC-only unit, you did not buy an air conditioner.

We just purchased a heat pump system -  I understand what you are saying about the heat pump system covers the heating and cooling of our home.  

If I put the cost under the most expensive line on the page where is says enter your qualified energy property cost, do I also enter the same amount on the page where it ask for the improvements or replacements installed for enabling property.  To me it seems like this would be duplication of information.

No.  That is only for any ADDITIONAL costs that you may have had because you had to upgrade your electric (such as replacing your entire circuit breaker panel) in order to install the heat pump.
