Hello, please help. I do not own a property nor did I receive a 1098 but when trying to complete my taxes it is making me answer a question of secured or not

TurboTax may be asking you about details from a Form 1098 if you filed a prior tax return with TurboTax that had a Form 1098. ‌If you don't have one and you are not entering any mortgage interest, you can just continue through those TurboTax screens.

If TurboTax has generated any mortgage-related forms such as the Home Mortgage Interest Worksheet or a Form 1098, you may have to delete them from your return if they cause errors.

First, to get back to your TurboTax entry screens to check your mortgage-related questions you can do the following:

  1.  Click on "Search" (magnifying glass) at the top right of your screen and
  2. Type "1098" in the search bar. ‌
  3. Click on "Jump to 1098."  This will allow you to review your entries for your mortgage interest from Form 1098
  4. Your screen will say, "Did you pay any home loans in 2024?" Make sure that is answered "No"

To do this in TurboTax Desktop, you will:

  1. Open your return
  2. Click on "Forms" at the top left of your screen to switch to "Forms Mode"
  3. In your left panel click on any "Form(s) 1098" or "Mortgage Interest Worksheets" that may be there. You could have had a carry-over form a prior year.

To do this in TurboTax Online you will:

  1. Choose Tax Tools option on the left menu bar in the federal section of TurboTax
  2. Choose Tools
  3. Under Other Helpful Links choose Delete a form
  4. Find the Mortgage Interest Worksheet and Form 1098 and click on the option to delete it

Your TurboTax screens will look something like this:
