There is not any glitch. How old is your dependent child?

To get the $2,200 credit, your child must be 16 or younger on December 31, 2025.

The moment a child turns 17, they no longer qualify for the CTC. Instead, they qualify for the Credit for Other Dependents, which is exactly $500.

Double-check the birth year you entered in the "Personal Info" section. If they were born in 2008, they turned 17 in 2025 and will only trigger the $500 credit.

I understand how the credit works. My child is under two and my family doesn't make enough for us to not qualify for the correct tax credit amount.

I had turbotax review the issue and confirm it IS a glitch.... Have they corrected it? If not soon - I'll be taking my return else where.

Thanks,

@guamcvey

Go back to My Info on the left side of the online program screen. Edit the dependent and carefully check your answers to the questions.

Note - A child born in 2025 is deemed to have lived in your home for the entire year.

Make sure you select them as your Child, that you selected that they lived in your home for the Whole Year, temporary absence for education is deemed living in your home. That they did NOT provide over one-half of their own support (You Did), that you indicated there was no one else in the household providing support to them, and that you did NOT check the box labeled Not valid for employment in the Social Security number section.

If all your answers are correct then delete them as a dependent and re-enter.

I've done that 6+ times, two of which with your tax expert viewing my screen and verifying...

@guamcvey Understand.  Have you also deleted the dependent and re-entered them?

If the child is under the age of 17, lived in your home for over 6 months.  did NOT provide over one-half of their own support, the check box for Not Valid for Employment was NOT checked in the Social Security number section, that you indicated that no one else in household provided support for the child, then they would be eligible for the child tax credit.

There is no glitch in the software, this dependent section has been completed millions of times without issue.

Yes I have several times. As mentioned a few times now in this thread.... Turbo Tax expert CONFIRMED I'm seeing a glitch and walked me through all your suggestions and tried them a few times....If no one is looking into resolving this I'll be filing elsewhere to not lose out on $1700...

Please in the future set up a way to follow up on specific glitches or concerns.... Maybe it's working for millions, no idea why it's not on my end and your experts couldn't explain it either.

If you would like to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information it would help.  If you would like to do this, here are the instructions:  (Don't forget to give us the state)

TurboTax Online:

Open your return -Go to the menu panel on the left side of your return and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number and your state. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

TurboTax Desktop:

If you like, you can send a copy of your return that will be scrubbed to eliminate your personal data by using these steps:

  1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
  2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'* > Follow the prompts to reach the token number.
    • Enter your email used for TurboTax > Enter your code > Send
  3. Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
  4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
  5. Please also tell us any states included in the return. This is necessary for us to view the return.
    • *If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, 'Send Tax File to Agent')

We will be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return to provide you with a resolution.
