Yes, Hurricane Ian has been declared a qualified disaster, and people affected qualify for tax relief.  If you already filed our 2022, there is no need to amend it unless you have to make a change related to something else, see this link.  There are also no tax relief options for the 2023 tax filing.

  • The declaration allows the IRS to postpone certain tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for taxpayers who reside or have a business in the disaster area.
  • Also extended time for some estimated tax payments.,
  • It abated penalties on some payroll and excise tax deposits.

The IRS automatically identifies taxpayers located in the covered disaster area and applies for filing and payment relief. However affected taxpayers who reside or have a business located outside the covered disaster area should call the IRS disaster hotline at 866-562-5227 to request this tax relief.  For more information click here.
